Gas Transfer & Pressurization: Advancing Safety Innovations in the Aerospace Industry

The Aerospace industry has specific needs for gas charging and requires special equipment to safely, and reliably, handle those critical applications. This equipment must be capable of generating high pressures with all sorts of gases and refrigerants and do so time and time again. In turn, that equipment must also stand up to the rigors of Military and Defense applications, when and where needed.

One such example is on-board pressurized oxygen cylinders. Pressurized oxygen cylinders are a critically important piece of emergency equipment, needed on board every flight to ensure there is oxygen available in the plane’s cockpit and cabin when the aircraft is flying at an altitude where atmospheric pressure is insufficient to oxygenate blood with normal air (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen) if the aircraft loses pressurization. If an emergency loss of pressure occurs and oxygen is needed, oxygen is slowly released through masks in the airplane’s cabin until the plane reaches an altitude at which there is sufficient atmospheric pressure for normal breathing and oxygenation. In the case of many military jets, pilots breathe directly from oxygen gas cylinders at all times during their flight.

Given the extreme importance of fully charged, in-flight oxygen cylinders for the health and safety of all passengers, it is imperative that aerospace crews have the utmost confidence in the company supplying the equipment to refill them.

With a proven reputation for safety and quality, Haskel has earned its wings in the aerospace industry by providing commercial airline companies and military aerospace units around the globe with high-pressure gas and liquid transfer and pressurization solutions that keep passengers and crews safe and secure as they navigate the skies.

The comprehensive suite of products that Haskel provides to aerospace clients includes the Haskel Oxygen Booster System—which offers efficient, safe, and economical oxygen handling for commercial and military airplanes.

Creating Customized Solutions to Advance Aerospace Safety

Haskel routinely develops solutions that meet or exceed the unique safety and functionality requirements of its aerospace industry customers. For example, Haskel supplied oxygen booster systems to an Italian instrument manufacturer serving the aerospace market. The products were part of a series of ground support carts supplied to a European airline specifically for charging oxygen gas into life support systems.

In this case, Haskel manufactured its oxygen booster compressors using Monel high-pressure oxygen components, as requested by the customer. Monel components are stable at pressure well above what is needed in the industry, making them a higher grade than the standard. Providing the highest degree of safety available in the industry allowed the customer to fulfill its contractual requirements. Designing modifications to realize desired outcomes, while maintaining superior levels of safety, is just one example of its continued commitment to innovative solutions.

Haskel provides a wide range of high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic equipment for the aerospace industry. To learn more about partnership opportunities and how Haskel can help you reach your critical application goals, contact us today.
