Haskel’s new hydraulically-driven gas booster launches at Hannover Messe Improved equipment for fast-developing hydrogen-fueled vehicles market

High-pressure specialist Haskel will be launching its new and improved hydraulically-driven gas booster system at the Hannover Messe H2 + FC + BAT this month. The gas booster features a modular design that is easily configurable to a wide range of critical high-pressure gas boosting applications.

Used in hydrogen applications worldwide, the gas booster is also being used in refueling systems for Hydrogen-powered vehicles. The use of hydrogen as a clean fuel for vehicles of the future is growing in popularity and the worldwide market is forecast to grow strongly over the next few years.

Haskel has driven the innovative changes to the gas booster by listening to and working closely with existing customers on advanced engineering technology.

The new booster is being manufactured in the US and will be sold predominantly as a finished ‘plug-and-play’ functional skid, built close to where the demand is around the world. Haskel’s Sunderland plant, which is an expert in this niche sector, is to be the assembly location for Europe.

The hydraulic driven gas booster is an integral part of refueling stations for the expanding market for hydrogen-powered cars, government and other vehicles, such as forklift trucks.

Stephen Learney, Haskel Director of Product Management, said, “Haskel has been supplying gas boosters suitable for use in hydrogen gas applications for over 30 years, many of which are being used in R&D facilities around the world, involved in the development of hydrogen as a fuel.

“Laboratory-based R&D work is now transitioning to practical application. Hydrogen fueled vehicles are a developing market, especially in an industrial setting where they have already gained traction in Europe.”

“There are even bigger markets in the US and Asia which are still developing. Hydrogen is creating huge interest at the moment, and our current model is already being used in hydrogen refueling stations around the world. The new gas booster is an important improvement to our current product with major benefits to customers.”

Hydrogen-powered vehicles are the latest technology to make use of Haskel’s specialist skills. The established brand is well known for manufacturing equipment that can handle gasses and liquids safely for clients in the oil, gas, energy and defense sectors worldwide. Its engineers have a strong track-record in tackling specific problems for customers to create systems able to solve their particular issues.

The gas booster being showcased at the Hannover Messe will be an important part of Haskel’s continuing involvement with hydrogen refueling.

It is forecast that hydrogen-powered cars could make up half of the UK automotive market by the middle of the century. There is heavy investment in the technology in the UK, where it is considered as one of the main alternatives to fossil fuels. Hydrogen is a greener fuel because its only by-product is water.

Haskel’s US sister company BuTech is also launching a new high-pressure relief valve at the Hannover Messe. The product is designed to automatically reset after each pressure release, resulting in less maintenance and downtime.
