GENO Hydrogen Compression

Recognized around the world as a key zero-emission fuel, hydrogen is crucial to decarbonizing transport. However, without specialized infrastructure, this natural gas will not be a viable alternative to traditional fuels. Haskel is facilitating hydrogen mobility with its GENO hydrogen compression systems.

Safe and reliable hydrogen gas that is easy to transport is key to building a strong hydrogen economy, and Haskel’s range of standardized GENO compression and filling systems are speeding up the transition to hydrogen for many industrial processes.

Haskel designs and manufacturers gas handling solutions that can efficiently and reliably be used to compress, store and distribute hydrogen across the globe. Haskel’s modular GENO systems make hydrogen mobility easier and enable the storage and transport of compressed hydrogen in Tube Trailers.

Key features

  • Standard containerised solutions of 20ft or 40ft Hi-Cube
  • Integrated compressed air system for pneumatic valve actuation
  • Compression capability of over 3000 kgs per day
  • Suitable for outlet pressures pressures of up to 950 bar
  • Can be integrated with direct compression dispense points to enable filling of Tube Trailers or Manifolded Cylinder Packs (MCPs)
  • Flexible inlet supply pressure ranging between 20 and 500 bar to support various gas inlet sources, such as on site electrolyser, tube trailers or manifold cylinder pack.
  • Installation, maintenance and service support packages provide peace of mind across the life of the GENO system.

Hydrogen Compression for Tube Trailers

The GENO compression system utilizes Haskel’s hydraulically operated H-Drive hydrogen compressor to enable output pressures of up to 1050 bar. Greater energy density storage supports high-pressure hydrogen storage for tube trailer applications.

Gaseous hydrogen is compressed and transferred into long tube-like cylinders that are stacked onto a trailer to be hauled by trucks for easy transportation. Steel or composite cylinders are often bundled together into packs known as manifolded cylinder packs (MCPs) and delivered to site on the back of a truck or hydrogen Tube Trailer.

Once transported between sites, Hydrogen is then taken from the Tube Trailer and used as an energy source at a specific location, either for hydrogen-fuelled vehicles or to power wider manufacturing processes.

GENO Compression as part of A Hydrogen Refuelling Station

GENO compression systems are also at the heart of Haskel’s, ‘turnkey’, GENO hydrogen refueling stations. More information about these industrial hydrogen refueling solutions can here be found here.

Our GENO hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS) offer a reliable, high capacity filling solution. They are suitable for both 350 and 700 bar hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Designed for highly demanding refuelling profiles, they deliver back-to-back filling experience. With the capacity to provide over 3000 kg of hydrogen per day.

GENO hydrogen compression systems and standardized hydrogen refuelling systems are flexible, modular solutions that you can scale up with increasing demand. Click here for more information.

The Technology at the Heart of Haskel’s Hydrogen Solutions

At the heart of all the GENO systems is Haskel’s market leading, hydraulically operated H-Drive compression technology.

The H-Drive booster can compress hydrogen up to 1050 bar. This makes it the perfect choice for high pressure hydrogen compression and hydrogen storage. It also supports refuelling at 700 bar. Read more about GENO refuelling solutions here.

The advanced design of the H-Drive booster delivers supreme efficiency, reliability and robustness.

Haskel H-Drive compressor uses a piston instead of a diaphragm to reduce the volume of hydrogen. This is because diaphragm compressors have complicated start/stop procedures and higher CAPEX requirements. What is more, a diaphragm ruptures or failure may lead to an oil leak.

Hydrogen Testing Capabilities

Haskel’s Sunderland-based Hydrogen Centre of Excellence has recently benefited from a major investment. We used it to boost the facility’s operating capacity and upgrade the equipment in place. This hydrogen innovation hub that covers 1500 square metres can now test four 40ft hydrogen stations at any one time.

Aftermarket Packages

Haskel’s comprehensive support and maintenance packages offer peace of mind. You can be confident that your investment in the Haskel hydrogen solutions is well-protected. Haskel optimizes its hydrogen fueling stations to ensure your long-term success in the hydrogen industry.
